Malang (5/10) - Access to justice is a right for every citizen. Unfortunately, many cases contradict this doctrine. Underprivileged communities and citizens, ethnic minorities and other vulnerable groups are particularly vulnerable to having their right to access the courts ignored.
This phenomenon has recently occurred frequently. In order to provide strengthened understanding of citizens' access to the courts, FH UMM equipped its students with a guest lecture entitled Right of Access to Justice, by presenting experts from Maastricht University, the Netherlands, namely Assoc. Prof. Fokke. J. Fernhout. The guest lecture agenda was held in the Hall Level 9 GKB IV UMM, today.
Hundreds of FH UMM students were present and actively involved in the guest lecture. In fact, some students are not awkward to ask questions that are quite critical. As raised by Denny, who asked about the double standard of access to justice in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, where Israel is part of a European country which is in fact subject to laws and regulations under the European Union.
"Yes, Israel is part of Europe, but Palestine is not. So, we can't impose sanctions against Russia for invading Ukraine, just like the conflict between Israel and Palestine." Fokke said
Apart from students, there were also questions and discussions from lecturers. The guest lecture agenda ended in the afternoon. It is hoped that through these guest lectures, both students and lecturers of FH UMM can gain additional insight and knowledge related to the right to access to justice, including the elements in it, such as fair trial, open access and so on. Apart from being held offline, the guest lecture activities can be enjoyed through the FH UMM youtube channel (saf).
